There are a million reasons to discover and explore the city of Surigao. But for someone like me who usually travels with family and with very limited time, staying in one spot that provides a fun-packed experience is utmost requirement.
Just weeks ago, me and my wife have managed to sneak in a short-but-sweet escape with the kids in my beloved hometown, Surigao. We were beholden to have spent it at the only place in the city that provides a Marajaw Hospitality beyond compare, the Almont Beach Resort.
Almont Beach Resort is one of Surigao’s top business and leisure destinations located in the hills of Lipata, Surigao City. It boasts of culturally savvy amenities, and an awe-inspiring view of the Surigao strait and some of the neighboring Mindanaoan islands.
Convinced yet? Here are four more reasons why we chose Almont Beach Resort to be venue for our weekend respite from the busy world of adulting:
Food
Almont’s dining hubs always gives you a familiar taste of home. Almont Beach Resort’s sole restaurant, Café Maharlika, provides not just a great view of the sea but sumptuous and irresistible food as well.
Maharlika Breakfast
Either you woke up late or just got back from an early morning walk at the beach, expect that Café Maharlika will be greeting you with an honest-to-goodness breakfast plate. From Continental to American breakfasts all the way to the fabled Maharlikan breakfast, Almont’s got you covered.
Weekend Feast
Had a very hectic work week? A feast buffet at Cafe Maharlika will surely relieve you from all unwanted stressors preparing you for another busy week ahead. Indulge your palate with an unlimited supply of ocean’s bounty or, perhaps, tickle those senses with mouthwatering meat dishes meticulously prepared just for you.
Ambiance
In the hospitality industry such as in hotels and resorts, ambiance is what sets the stage. It is usually the first thing that a visitor notices. Make it or break it, setting the right atmosphere is really as important as the brand of service itself.
The best thing about Almont is its simple facade and straightforward interior design which gives it a homey feel all the way through, which is more than enough to have a meaningful and memorable stay.
Amenities
Almont Beach Resort has top-notch facilities and amenities. If you wish to do more than just pure relaxation, this 3-star resort should be at the top of your list. Wi-Fi connection is available almost everywhere in the vicinity including the rooms. All rooms are also equipped with cable TV, hot and cold shower, and a mini bar.
Swimming Pool
The resort has two lagoon-style pools worthy of an Instagram post or two. These pools that overlook the historically-rich waters (trivia: where the Battle of Surigao Strait happened) lures calm and relaxation. Whether you’re with the gang or the fambam, this panoramic view fails to disappoint.
Beach
Not the typical powdery white sand beach that everyone loves, Almont beach’s rough terrain is a beauty in disguise. Facing the Surigao strait makes it among the best spots in town that presents a 180-degree view of the sky.
The resort displays a magnificent view of the city on one side, and the famous Basul Island and other island barangays on the other. If you are into photography, the resort is the perfect spot to capture the most picturesque of all landscape and seascape snaps.
The moonrise at night is only as alluring as its more popular counterpart, the sunrise. During our visit, a total lunar eclipse dubbed to be the “longest in the 21st century” was scheduled to happen, and we were among the lucky few to have witnessed it in all its glory, thanks to the very open view from our room’s balcony.
Volleyball/Basketball Court
Get physical and keep up with your fitness routine by making a good use of the basketball and volleyball courts situated just right in front of Café Maharlika.
Function Rooms and Event Venues
The resort has complete event facilities. It has three meeting halls namely the Sohoton, Siargao and Bucas Grande (trivia: named after Surigao’s three most popular tourist destinations) which are all suitable for conventions, seminars and special events. Whether for a small group or a large congregation, these meeting rooms are readily available to your disposal.
Accommodation
Experience the embodiment of beach living with our five comfortable suites. Each suite offers its own private veranda where you can enjoy the scenic view of the Surigao seas.
The following are three room accommodations you can choose from:
Suite
Among the three options, the Suite room is the biggest of them all. This was our room of choice because of its size, and we needed a big room since my parents were to spend the weekend with us as well. The room is elegantly spacious, and makes use of native fixtures and furniture.
The balcony is worth noting, and I think you already know why.
Junior Suite
The Junior Suite is a bit smaller than the Suite room but provides the same features. This room is ideal for smaller groups or, perhaps, couples who are in pursuit of something more intimate.
Deluxe
The Deluxe room welcomes you with elegant furnishings and modern facilities. Whether it’s for casual business conventions or for reunions meant to build memories with your significant others, you’d agree that this, indeed, is your home away from home.
Whether you are a travel enthusiast or are just looking for a way to unwind after a long week, Almont Beach Resort will surely not disappoint. This is any travelers’ smart choice that offers a relaxed and hassle-free stay every single time. So, if you are looking for a buzz-worthy destination in no-less than the City of Island Adventures, Almont Beach Resort is the place to be.
See you there!
How to get there?
The resort is just 15 minutes away from the heart of the city and it’s very accessible to most transport systems. If you wish to commute going to the resort, here are the most convenient means of transportation:
via Public Terminal
If you come from neighboring towns like Butuan City, the Public Terminal is the best place where to grab a ride. Most of the PUJs that are bound to Lipata passes by the resort with fares ranging from P20-P30. Just tell them to drop you off there.
via City Public Market
If you wish to take a stroll around the city first before heading to the resort, or if you just happen to be near the City Public Market, you will find motor cabs parked in the area that are bound to Lipata. Fare is only P20.
